Creating your wedding stationery should be as stress-free as possible.
The best advice I could give you is to hire a stationer. Let them help you with things like printing your save the dates or worrying about how much postage you need to mail invitations.
After all, you should be spending your time enjoying your engagement with your fiancé—you only get to be engaged once in your life!
There are five key services I highly recommend you look for when hiring your wedding stationer. If you find a stationer who offers each of these services, not only will your life become about a million times easier, but you can get back to spending more precious time with your fiance.
It’s a win-win!
First, find a stationer who does it all
Save yourself hours on hours of work and hire a stationer who does it all — save the dates, invitations + day-of.
This will not only save you hours of searching online for more and more stationery, but it might even save you some money, too!
If you’re working with a custom stationer, chances are they’ll love it if you choose to work with them from the very beginning. As a stationer, I can tell you that it’s so much easier and less time-consuming to work with a couple throughout their entire wedding planning journey. Some stationers even offer a price break if you book them for all of your stationery needs!
Now, if you’re thinking a semi-custom or even a templated design is more your speed, look for a bundle! Sometimes stationers offer a pack where you can get all the stationery you need for your wedding in one big pack. Usually, this is at a much lower cost then if you bought it all separately, too.
But, for sure, see if you can find a one-stop-shop for all of your stationery needs. It’ll be so worth it!
Hire someone to customize your design the way you want
Whatever you do, please don’t spend hours + hours on the computer customizing your invitation design DIY-style. Work with a stationer directly—you’ll thank me later.
If you want to make your semi-custom or templated design more your own, ask your stationer if they can help you with a few edits. Oftentimes, they have a design fee for this service. But, if this is something you really want, it’s sooooo worth the extra money to have someone do it right, rather than trying to figure it out on your own.
Now, if a custom design is something you’d love, I highly recommend hiring a custom wedding stationer. They’ll help you create your wedding stationery so that it’s the perfect fit for you right from the start!
A stationer who will do all the printing for you
Printing can become extremely time-consuming and expensive if you don’t know what you’re doing.
Even if you have a printer at home that you think can print all of your wedding stationery for you, I recommend still hiring it out. There are professionals out there that do this for a living and are really, really good at what they do.
Yes, it might cost you a little extra to have someone print everything for you, but believe me—it’ll be worth every penny.
Even as a professional stationer, I outsource a lot of my printing needs, because I want it done right and at the highest quality possible for my couples.
If you’re not sure where to print your stationery, ask around! See if anyone knows of any local printers you can take your designs to. You might even check in with wedding stationers to see if they’ll simply print your design for you.
But, pleeeassseeee don’t print everything yourself.
Assembly services for the win
This one is completely up to you!
How do you feel about your crafty, hands-on, assembly skills on a scale of 1 to 10?
If you feel comfortable with it, go for it! If you have any doubt at all, ask your stationer if they offer assembly services and have them help you.
This is one of those things that if you’re comfortable with doing it yourself, you totally can. But, if you think you might mess up or do something wrong, it’s totally worth asking your stationer to do it for you.
Some stationers include assembly services in their packages when you book them. Other stationers may not offer the service at all, or if they do it might cost you a small fee.
Either way, if it helps relieve any stress for you, it’s totally worth it!
Someone to handle postage + mailing
Ask your stationer if they can possibly help you with your postage + mailing, as well.
Some stationers offer this as an additional service (plus a small fee) or sometimes it’s included in your package!
Calculating postage + making sure you mail your invitations correctly can quickly become a headache, especially if you’re not totally sure what you’re doing.
It’s taken me years to wrap my head around postage + mailing rules and I still end up having a million questions sometimes.
This is definitely one of those things that I recommend asking someone else you trust to take care of this for you. You’ll be so glad you did!
Some stationers might offer other services, as well — it never hurts to ask!
All stationers, and even shops, might offer each of these services plus some others if you’re lucky!
While you’re searching for your wedding stationer, definitely ask questions before you book or order your stationery. That way, you have a clear understanding of what the add-on services are up-front. Then, you can add them on ASAP if you’re interested or for sure need them!
